Women4Climate Mentoring Program Presentation – Lisboa Green Capital 2020

Women4Climate Mentoring Program Presentation

Starting today it is possible for all female entrepreneurs to apply for the Women4Climate programme.

The Mentoring and Training program of Women4Climate Lisboa was presented today at the Green Capital store. The initiative that began in 2017 with the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo – the first woman to lead the C40 – arrived for the first time in Portugal, in the midst of Lisboa European Green Capital 2020, by the hand of the Lisbon City Hall, with the promoters of Startup Lisboa and Casa do Impacto/SMCL. Margarida Figueiredo, Municipal Director of Economy and Innovation at CML explains to us, in the opening speech, the context of this program: “Lisbon has recently joined the C40 network, which is an international network of cities. The great international societies have great concerns about sustainability (…) we in Lisbon and in the scope of this great initiative have set up this training and mentoring program to give the opportunity to work on the issue of sustainability related to climate change, and to join with the issue of Women’s Empowerment”.

As a program that inspires women to become the next leaders in the area of climate action and environmental sustainability, the issue of inequalities between the two sexes in society was addressed; to change this paradigm it is necessary to evolve “over the next 10 years – what the city wants to do is choose to evolve. We can achieve better results in all dimensions and this also translates into an increasingly egalitarian society where women have an increasingly central role in our economy, much more than they have today, because today it is not balanced, today it is not fair, it is not well distributed and women do not have access to leadership positions that correspond with their merit”, says Miguel Gaspar, Councillor for Mobility.

This programme, which aims to reverse the low female representation in the environmental sector, has as its final application date March 29th. Applications are made through a form available online.

The program is divided into two phases: in the first phase are chosen 25 projects which will, for 7 days, participate in a bootcamp where the participants will develop their business ideas. In the second phase are chosen the 15 projects that will be accompanied by their mentors.

The winning project will be entitled to a prize of 10 thousand euros, as well as access to a network of mentors and partners of Startup Lisbon, plus incubation at Casa do Impacto and in the MAZE acceleration program.
