Two hundred entities, including schools, businesses and public bodies, joined the Lisbpa Green Capital Commitment 2020 – Lisbon 2030 Climate Action today.
This commitment translates into concrete and sustainable actions to be taken by each of the organizations involved. Eliminating the use of single-use plastics, installing solar energy equipment or providing employees with sustainable mobility solutions were some of the measures promised by the companies. There were more than 2100 actions that reflect a joint will to change behaviours in favour of environmental sustainability.
As Environment Alderman José Sá Fernandes said at the opening of the ceremony, “commitment means something very simple: to promise together”. In the follow-up, one by one the companies took to the stage to commit themselves to carrying out the actions previously chosen during the next decade. At the end, Fernando Medina, the Mayor of Lisbon, also signed the document and stressed that “this was not a protocol signature, but concrete commitments for action”.
This agreement is now symbolically represented in a “mural of commitment” on Avenida Calouste Gulbenkian. Still to be finalized, the wall in graffiti and tile is done by the artist Smile1art and the tile factory Viúva Lamego.
